It is with great sadness that we mark the
passing of our long time friend Don Reinhart. Don passed away early
in the morning of April 14th, following by only a few days his 90th birthday.
He was our trainer for seventeen successful years. We send our condolences to Don's widow, Naomi, and to his very fine and loving family. We, as well as the American Saddlebred community, will miss him very much. For a salute to Don which was posted just a few days ago, and to watch a video about Don's time with us, please scroll down on this page. FIRST FOAL OF THE SEASON SALUTE TO DON REINHART We are so glad that Clem Lee is the current trainer at Sunset Farm. However, we owe a great deal to our former head trainer, Don Reinhart and have dedicated a video to his years with us. Don and Naomi are now in a retirement home and Don is looking forward to being 90 years old in April 2012. A true and dedicated horseman, every day for seventeen years, Don made the long trip from Grove City to Plain City - in all kinds of weather. He was amazing, working horses and breaking and riding young colts until well into his eighth decade. Don's dedication to the American Saddlebred is hard to describe. First, he was a fanatic about their health, comfort and well-being. A real horse lover, he was also considered to have some of the "best hands" in the business. One of my memories of Don is that he was always scrubbing their water buckets . . fresh and clean water was the first order of business! He arrived at work early every day and stayed long hours until the work was done. What a work ethic! We also do not think he felt the cold at all. There was absolutely no weather that would deter him being in the barn with his beloved horses. Don was renowned for making a gaited horse. It is little known, but it was Don that started the famous stallion, WC Belle Reve's Renaissance Man and sold him to Donna Moore. He also started WC Stravinsky, RWC Cha'Ching. WC It's Tea Time, as well as training RWC Deja Vu's Delight, and WC Radiante in preparation for Louisville. This video is a compilation of photos that were taken while he was with us. In retrospect, I wish we had taken more. My favorite experience in all the world was to hear Don "whooping with joy" after he had racked a good horse down the barn aisle way. I would often view Don and the horse in silhouette against the light coming through the barn doors. In winter with the steam coming out of the horse's nostrils, it was a stirring sight and I have stored it in my memory forever. I hope you enjoy this, while it does not do Don the justice he deserves, we are looking forward very much to sharing it with him. -Pam Boyers Please click HERE to watch the video.

Sunset Farm is a small
American Saddlebred breeding operation in Central Ohio, situated
just Northwest of Columbus. We work very hard to provide an
environment for the mares and babies that ensures they will
flourish to become happy, healthy horses for their eventual
owners. We firmly believe that the early years of their life are
of critical importance; so giving them the best foundation
possible is our highest goal.
In order to achieve this, the mares and foals of Sunset Farm are given excellent nutrition and the kindest of handling. When they come into the training barn, Our trainer, Clem Lee, uses a quiet voice, gentle handling and his own unique approach that makes extensive use of body language. The health of all the horses is another very high priority. In addition to traditional veterinary medicine, a holistic approach is taken with the mares, foals, prospects and training horses. Following this method, chiropractic care, herbal supplements, and acupuncture are often used with, or instead of, the traditional medical approach. Having observed the results this regimen produces, our veterinarians are supportive of this philosophy and partner well with us to accomplish the best outcomes. In addition to breeding and raising high quality youngsters, Clem trains and prepares prospects for the show ring. Clem specializes in preparing horses for amateur riders and will accept select horses for training and for sales purposes. Additionally, we assist many sellers and buyers in locating horses to fit exacting needs and purposes. Clem has demonstrated a rare talent in creating strong and lasting matches. In providing this valuable service, we’ve created many long-term relationships with people who share our love of the American Saddlebred. We’ve only been in business a little over two decades, so we're still young by the measure of many equine operations. But in that time, we’ve discovered that there is absolutely no substitute for clear, above-board communication, honesty, and fair dealings. By maintaining open, trusting relationships, we are able to enjoy associations with customers we’ve had from many years past, and we’re very proud of that fact. If you are looking for a horse, please do not hesitate to contact us.
